Adult choice belongs in Alberta's provincial rights conversation
Adult choice belongs in Alberta's provincial rights conversation. If Alberta is arguing that decisions should be made closer to Albertans, then adult lifestyle regulations should also be evidence-based, reviewable, and provincial in design.
The rights connection
Provincial autonomy is not only about large resource projects. It is also about whether Alberta can design fair rules for adults of legal age while protecting youth through measurable enforcement.
A rights-respecting model includes
- Clear objectives.
- AGLC-style enforcement.
- Legal access measurement.
- Illicit-supply reporting.
- Review dates instead of permanent assumptions.
Important distinction
This is not a claim that the Premier has endorsed any coalition or any vaping-specific position. It is a policy alignment point. If Alberta is serious about provincial autonomy, then Alberta should build the enforcement model for Alberta's nicotine market rather than leaving the file half-built.
